In the winter months parking lots are dangerous places and severe injuries can occur from slips and falls on unseen ice.
It's dark out so you can’t see the ice and even in daylight black ice is difficult to spot. It’s cold so you want to get your car as fast as possible increasing the odds you might slip and fall because your not as careful as you should be.
For business owners, salt early and often. Bring snow crews in early to push snow off of sidewalks and parking lots and then salt generously.
Make sure parking lots are well lit.
Take a minute to prepare mentally before you go outside on slippery pavement. Change shoes to slip resistant footwear. Stay low and be prepared to fall. If you need to carry a large or bulky item go get your car first and drive back to the entrance to load your items.
